Firs Colony Mall - Sugar Land, Texas

If you are looking to fill time while your having foundation repair in Sugar Land complete, then you might think about a trip to First Colony Mall. The mall opened in 1996 as the first regional shopping facility in the Fort Bend County area. The mall was built with a single-level approach and was closely modeled after the West Oaks mall. When it opened it had carpeted flooring and skylight lit walkways. A few of the original stores that found a home in the mall were Foley’s, J.C. Penny’s and Dillard’s. When it open, First Colony Mall had over 100 stores and a vast eatery section. It was also the second mall in Houston that did not open with a Sear’s inside. Even though Sear’s was a great place to get tools for construction, it was on the decline in all other categories.

First Colony Mall Expansion

In 2006 First Colony Mall expanded and added a section.  They added an open-air wing in front of the main entrance of the mall. There were many new upscale retailers that entered this new space, including Apple and Williams-Sonoma. The parking lot in front of the main entrance was the area used for the expansion. Because of this, new parking garage structures were constructed to support the offset of the parking. Also, because of the expansion and newly added stores, traffic became very cumbersome to navigate in and around the mall. To help ease traffic before and after the construction, the City of Sugar Land added traffic lights to Town Center Boulevard North and on the East side of the mall.
